20687 Park Circle West 3

I am the tenant living in unit 3 in 20687 Park Circle West, and this is my experience living here so far.

These are true facts (including photos) and my honest opinion (I think 20687 Park Circle West is a “bad” place to choose to live in).

Here are problems we are currently still living with today.

🩸 Nails

Nails This is a photo taken of the nails inside the kitchen cabinet. Nails are sharp and long and protruded. This surface is ceiling of the lower cabinet, and would be within reach of toddlers.

ScratchedDoor I am not sure why nails are such a problem in this apartment, but this is a photo of a door that shows one of the scratch marks made by nail. This particular door had two scratch marks when we reported to building management. The building management sent handyman to repaint the door and do something to the problematic nail, but after that repair, the bathroom door’s lock is no longer turning 90 degrees when closed…

🚑 Floor

I lived in many homes in the United States, including undergrad dorms at Stanford, apartments in Bellevue, Washington, and in Sunnyvale, but I have never seen a floor like this.

This video shows the floor in the living room. The floor moves up and down when we step on it. We are on the second floor. I am not sure if this is safe for us, and I am not sure what the safety and noise level will be like for the first floor units.

🔴 Living Room Floor

When we made a bookcase stand on the floor in the living room, we found that it slants at a significant angle. Expectation is that floor should be perpendicular to the wall.

📣 Noise

This video demonstrates sound isolation between inside the apartment unit and the noise from the outside world when everything is closed: the front door is closed, the living room window is closed, the balcony door is closed. Not shown in the video, but all the other doors and windows were closed when I recorded this. I can hear the outside sound clearly. In fact, I can easily carry on a conversation with someone inside the apartment while I am standing several steps away outside, even when all the doors and windows are closed.

I am using the room that is most tucked away from the front door as my home office. This is the noise level I hear even when all the doors and windows are closed. The bedroom has the same windows and faces the same direction, so the noise level is similar. Do not hate the children. It’s the building’s sound isolation, not the children. Additional information: I live on the second floor, so I am farther away from children playing on the streets than first floor units, and as for the children, I heard them every day of the week including weekdays and weekends during my time living here.

☠️ Dangerous: Uneven step slope

On a positive note, the handrails have been replaced. Building management disclosed that hand rails failed insurance requirements and had to be acted upon.

As for the problem that remains, the steps are still the same.

Normal
Here is a photo showing bottom five steps.
Abnormal
This is the same photo with annotation lines that make it easy to see that the second step is at a different angle.

I asked ChatGPT about the dangers of having a step that is different from the others in a staircase. ChatGPT cited the Wikipedia article on Stairs: ”… people get used to a regular step and may trip if there is a step that is different, especially at night.” It has been a trippy experience for us, because we live on the second floor and have to use these stairs every time we enter or exit the apartment. The second step does not move, but some other steps also move a little when I step on them. Anyone visiting the apartment unit can easily check this by just paying attention while going up and down the stairs.

⚠️ Pests (Bugs, Insects)

I decided to not include the photos since bugs are visually appalling, and since these are just the bugs that people are commonly aware of. I have seen the bugs inside the homes as well as in common spaces such as the laundry room where clothes and beddings are cleaned.
